Some years ago a visit to the beach was a regular occurrence but habits change and now what was almost a daily ritual has become a rare opportunity to return to the secular world. This small Cornish beach is rarely overcrowded and families arrive with children who usually seem able to enjoy themselves without attracting too much attention. This was a sunny afternoon for watching the world go by. The sea had retreated but it would soon be back to reclaim lost ground. High tide was expected at about 5.30pm.
