By Herself

“Reflect on this truth:

that God gives Himself to those who give up everything for Him.

All the Lord wants of us is humility and shame,

and that we shall accept what is given us, with praise for the Giver.

So gentle is this wooing which takes place between God and the soul that if anyone thinks I am lying,

I pray God, in his goodness, to grant him some experience of it.

For on earth there is so much concealment, as the Lord once said to me.

He used to say that women made much more progress on this path than men,

and he gave excellent reasons for it,

which there is no reason to repeat here,

all in women’s favour.”
