I have taught English in many countries around the world and in all of them people are unafraid to fly the flag. In my own country flying a flag is often considered shameful. For example, British intellectuals often consider themselves above such things. This was apparent to George Orwell when writing The Lion and the Unicorn essay nearly eighty years ago. With this in mind it might be appropriate to fly the flag again. I know such things disturb some but European elections are taking place next week and for those who are British at heart, from whatever background, I would urge you to consider the interests of an independent sovereign nation with a proud and noble tradition above that of a supranational federal EU state.
This is my opinion.
And these are my flags.
